As part of our 2nd-grade reading and writing curriculum, students participated in an exciting project where they created personal timelines. This activity helped reinforce key SOL objectives, such as sequencing events, understanding chronological order, and presenting information clearly. Students created timelines that highlighted important milestones in their lives, from birth to the present day. They used a variety of methods to showcase their timelines, including drawings, photos, captions, and written descriptions. This creative process allowed them to practice organizing ideas and using transitional words like first, next, then, and last. After completing their timelines, students presented them to the class. This experience supported the development of speaking and listening skills, as outlined in the SOL. They practiced speaking clearly, making eye contact, and answering questions from their classmates.

Sinai second graders read procedural texts to learn how to follow a recipe and do a science experiment. Students followed a recipe make Snack Mix and enjoyed eating it. Students also read the instructions for a Make a Drawing Dance science experiment. They drew a picture with a dry erase marker on a smooth glass plate, then covered the drawing with water to watch it dance and float.
