Students in Ms. Terry's Pre-K 3 class used food coloring and plain spaghetti noodles to create patriotic red , white, and blue edible sensory play. The students enjoyed sampling their noodles after the experiment was complete.

Sinai second graders reviewed computer science skills and engineering practices with several STEM activities. Students in Mrs. Bowes and Ms. Snead’s class worked with Mrs. Lewis, ITRT to code and fly drones; to code Dash and Root robots to complete tasks; construct marble mazes; design and construct structures using KEVA planks and magnetic blocks; complete coding challenges using their chromebooks and using color codes to control Ozobot robots. These hands-on experiences allowed the students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while having fun exploring the world of science, technology, engineering, and math. The students are already looking forward to the next STEM adventure.

Please see the attached flyer for information on Sinai's fifth grade promotion!

In celebration of Nurses Week Sinai Elementary School would like to recognize our awesome nurse, Valerie Roberts. Ms. Roberts takes care of all of us at Sinai Elementary. Nurse Roberts received a Nurses Survival Kit from Sinai's Spirit Committee and a bouquet of hand made flowers from Mrs. Kim Rutherford's class We are very thankful to have Nurse Roberts with us at Sinai to make sure we are all happy and healthy! Happy Nurses Week, Nurse Roberts!

The kindergartners of Mrs. Lipscomb, Ms. Goode, Mrs. Rutherford, and Ms. Gayles’ classes at Sinai Elementary School had an awesome experience at Danville Science Museum with special thanks to Halifax Education Foundation. We explored butterflies, visited the Dome Theatre Room, and enjoyed lots of hands-on activities. Attached are pictures of the students while they learn and explore!

Sinai Elementary students were greeted with words of encouragement and a wall of bubbles as they entered the school on their first day for SOL testing for the 2022-2023 school year. Students enjoyed reading the words of encouragement and walking through the wall of bubbles. Rock those tests Sinai students!

Mrs. Lanham's third graders have been reviewing for their upcoming math SOL. To make review a little more fun, they worked out their math problems in shaving cream on their desk, instead of the traditional paper and pencil way. The kids enjoyed getting messy and having fun while learning and reviewing.

Students at Sinai Elementary have enjoyed calming down and cooling off by visiting "The Calming Corner" located in Ms. M. Jackson's, the school counselor, classroom throughout this school year. This area has provided the tools to help them regulate and control their emotions. It contains calming posters and sensory toys, such as stress balls, fidgets, spinners, pop-its, and glitter wands. Thanks to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation for providing a mini-grant to fund this stress-free area.

Ms. Mason's first grade students recently reviewed fractions using tally mark sticks. Students also had a class restaurant where they cut apples, pizzas and crackers into halves and fourths.

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 classroom wanted multicolored cheerios, so they did a science experiment using food coloring to see if they could change the plain cheerios to multicolored cheerios. They were able to make red, yellow, green, blue, and orange cheerios.

This week students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class are learning about the letter U. The children practice tracing and making the letter U.

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class have been working super hard this school year. They have been learning their numbers, letters, colors, and sounds. Recently they learned how to count backwards from 5. The students were rewarded for working hard with a Sinai Eagle Buck which they redeemed at our Eagle Buck store. Sinai is so proud of our PK3 students!

Sinai Second Graders participated in a bartering activity as a part of their Economics unit in Social Studies. They dyed different colors and type of pasta noodles. Each student had one color and type of noodle and had to barter with classmates to gain other colors and types. After they bartered for the noodles that they wanted, they strung the colored pasta on a cord to create a Barter Necklace.

In celebration of Principal Appreciation Day, Sinai Elementary faculty and staff showed Mrs. Francine Davis how much we think of her. Mrs. Davis received many thoughtful and heartfelt gifts. Sinai loves our principal!

2nd graders at Sinai Elementary complete unplugged coding activities. Students use computational thinking and problem solving to complete each coding task. This educational opportunity was provided by the generosity of the Halifax County Public Schools Educational Foundation.

Second graders discussed and explored STEM careers with Mrs. Lewis, ITRT. Students designed and created a robotic arm that could pick up objects. STEM career exploration is a learning opportunity provided by a mini-grant funded by the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Thank you to HCPS Education Foundation for your generosity. STEM activities and projects provide opportunities for our students to use and practice critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration which give students a great foundation for future learning.

Many second graders at Sinai Elementary recently explored the design and engineering process. They worked with partners to build and create using many materials; styrofoam, magnet blocks, Legos, Keva planks, K’Nex and more. Students even worked to create circuits.

First grade students at Sinai Elementary are exploring unplugged coding activities with ITRT, Christie Lewis. This wonderful activity was made possible by a mini grant from the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Thank you to HCPS Education Foundation for your generous donation.

On Friday, kindergarten students at Sinai Elementary participated in a nature scavenger hunt celebrating Earth Day! The students also investigated the differences between living organisms and nonliving objects, and how things change over time.

Sinai Elementary 4th and 5th grade girls recently met for Girls Who Code. Students ate lunch and along with Christie Lewis, ITRT discussed some information from the book "Learn to Code and Change the World" by Reshma Saujani and explored coding using the Indi robot.
