Sinai 5th graders took advantage of the STEM Lab to use Legos to complete a challenge on motion. Teams had to design and build structures that demonstrated kinetic energy and potential energy. Once students had completed their structures, they shared their designs with the class.

Mrs. Dailey's ECSE Class Investigator's Club Book Parade!!!
Part of this week's lesson was learning about parts of a book, front cover, back cover, pictures, words. To finish off the week students were invited to pick one of their favorite books from the classroom library and have a Book Parade.

Too many absences can keep students from succeeding in school. If students miss 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent.

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class had a nice treat for having a good week so far. The children did a science experiment using white grape juice and silicon popsicle molds. We poured the juice in each individual mold, put it in the freezer at 9am and took them out at 230pm, the students enjoyed their frozen treat!

Attendance Matters!
Did you know If a student is absent 10% or more of the school year, it is considered chronic absenteeism? Ten percent is 18 days per school year or an average of two days a month.

5th graders at Sinai used scientific investigation skills on a Skittles experiment. Students went through each part of the Scientific Method to determine whether Skittles would lose their color quicker in cold water or hot water. Hot water was the winner!

Ms. Terry's PreK3 class engaged in sensory color play using shaving cream. As students mixed the shaving cream with their hands, they saw a color appear. The students also practiced writing the letter E and number 5 in their shaving cream.

Sinai Stem Sorbet! Students in Mrs. Rutherford's class are learning about states of matter by performing experiments. The students made sorbet out of apple juice. First, they put apple juice and food coloring in the small bag. Then they added ice, water and salt to the large bag. The smaller bag was placed inside the larger bag. The students shook the bags of apple juice until the liquid froze. Because the bag gets very cold, the students wore gloves to shake the bags. The apple juice starts out as a liquid but changes to a solid as it freezes. The students then ate the results.

Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class had fun using Keva planks to work together to help build bridges, snakes and garages.

The student's in Mrs. Rutherford's class were learning about themselves and their friends. They learned that everyone has 1 head, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 1 mouth and 1 nose, but the color of their eyes were different, the color of their skin was different and the color of their hair was different. So even though everyone is the same in some ways there are certain attributes that make them different. Everyone is unique in some way.

Students in Ms. Goode's Kindergarten class used Keva planks and their imaginations to build many fun and different things. We had boats, race tracks, bridges, and shapes. We also were able to count how many shapes we built!

Sinai second grade students spent time in the Sinai STEM lab working on the Apple STEM Challenge. Students were given 10 apples, 15 toothpicks along with some playdough. Students were given a time limit of 10 minutes to see which group could construct the tallest, free standing tower of apples. Students worked together to draw out a sketch and then began constructing their towers. The winning design was 8 inches tall! We also had an early morning group try the challenge.

Don't miss out! Come to school!

Second grade students at Sinai Elementary participated in the voting process as a part of their Citizenship Social Studies unit. Students marked their ballots to vote for a snack and counted and tallied the results to determine which snack they would have. The majority of the students voted for Goldfish Crackers.

Sinai is having its annual Fall Mum Fundraiser. Please see attached flyer for ordering information.

What a fun way to learn about colors by doing a holiday experiment! Students in Ms. Terry's PK3 class completed a sensory experiment that consisted of noodles, water, and food coloring.

All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 4, 2023 in observance of Labor Day.
