Mark this date on your calendars. The presenters at this event will provide a lot of valuable information for students and parents about secondary education. A general session will be offered that includes information about courses, diploma types, graduation requirements, certifications, and much more! Tables will be set up for guests to visit for content areas and electives. Staff including teachers, school counselors, and administrators will be available to answer specific questions about courses, career pathways, etc. Selected students will also be in attendance to share course highlights and other information they feel is valuable for other students. This night is going to be very informative and exciting for all!
Teacher Mini-Grant - Ms. Putnam’s and Mrs. Watts’ students enjoyed the snow center where they found, identified, matched, and provided individual letter names, sounds, and named items with the beginning sound of their found letters. These students attend South Boston Early Learning Center. The table and the snow in the table were provided by a grant from the HCPS Education Foundation.
Due to the forecasted weather and the Winter Storm Warning, Halifax County Public Schools will dismiss early tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025. South Boston Elementary School and South Boston Early Learning Center will dismiss at 12:30 PM. All other schools will dismiss at 1:00 PM.
Second nine weeks report cards are available for viewing on the parent portal. If you need a paper copy of the report card, please contact your child's school.

Student of the Month - Students that attend South Boston Early Learning Center received Student of the Month awards for the month of November.

Craft Activity – The PTO at South Boston Early Learning Center sponsored a December Craft Activity for the students. They created a Gingerbread Man Magnet. We would like to thank the parent volunteers who came to help their child’s class. Halifax County High School students from the Early Childhood and Teachers for Tomorrow classes volunteered to help with the activity.
Santa Cops Program – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center received a toy for Christmas from the Santa Cops Program. They were extremely excited when they entered the cafeteria with all of the toys on display. They left the cafeteria with “big” smiles and appreciation for the gifts. We would like to thank the South Boston Police Department and members of the community for these special donations.
Winter break for students will be December 23, 2024 - December 31, 2024. The New Year’s holiday is January 1, 2025. January 2, 2025 and January 3, 2025 are professional development/teacher workdays. Students return to school on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Liberty Tax Donation - Liberty Tax hosted a Holiday Toy Drive for South Boston Early Learning Center. They adopted 4 families for Christmas. Tantenia Powell and Shonda Powell presented the gifts to Priscilla Price. We would like to thank the community and Liberty Tax for their donations.

The faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center would like to express our heartfelt thanks to those present at our Holiday Celebration. Each class presented one of the two nights. Your support and enthusiasm made the celebration truly special for our students.
Holiday Celebration – The faculty/staff hosted a Holiday Celebration at South Boston Early Learning Center. The students performed by singing and moving to the various holiday songs. This was a 2 night celebration to better accommodate the number attending the celebrations. We would like to thank Dr. Tim Duncan for planning and directing such a special program for our students and their families.
Grandparent Breakfast and Book Fair – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed breakfast with their families at the center. They were able to shop at the Book Fair with their families also. More than 100 adults participated in this school-wide activity. Thank you to Food Services for serving our families.
