I Am Thankful For……
The students in Mrs. Young’s class talked about the people and the things that we loved and are happy to have in our lives. The people and the things that we love were then related to the things that we are thankful for. We discussed how families get together and eat turkey and a lot of other foods on a special day called Thanksgiving to celebrate the things that they are thankful for. The students were given thankful coloring pages and crayons to color however they would like to. Once they were done coloring, they had to tell the teachers what they were thankful for. The teachers wrote the students’ responses at the bottom of the page. The pages were laminated and turned into placemats to use during Thanksgiving dinner or any meal time.

Ms. Shelton's class decorated the letter N with noodles. Some students even made a pattern out of their colored noodles.

“Thanks and Giving” Campaign - Long & Foster of South Boston honored teachers in Halifax County Public Schools through a “Thanks and Giving” Campaign. They awarded one random teacher from each school in Halifax County $100 in cash. Michelle Hackney’s name was drawn as the winner for South Boston Early Learning Center. They also provided Windmill cookies for all the faculty/staff as a small token of gratitude for all they do for our schools, students and community. We would like to thank Long & Foster for this generous campaign.

South Boston Early Learning Center Visits Richmond Metro Zoo - The students from South Boston Early Learning Center traveled to the Richmond Metro Zoo for a fun and educational field trip. The students spent the day exploring the zoo's many exhibits, observing a variety of animals including giraffes, lions, and other exotic species. Without a tour guide, students and their chaperones were encouraged to explore at their own pace, discovering the animals and learning about their habitats. The trip provided a hands-on opportunity for students to connect with nature, fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife and the importance of animal conservation. The visit was both an enjoyable and enriching experience for all involved.

Creating and Extending Patterns: - Students in Mrs. Edmunds and Mrs. Carr’s class used fine motor skills and hand eye coordination to string various color beads to create and extend patterns. They also used cards to match color and shape beads to the beads seen on the card.

Writing and Our Senses - The students in Mrs. Crews' class practiced writing the letter of the week (N) in shaving cream. Not only are we learning the alphabet, but we're also engaging our senses of touch and smell.

Fine Motor and Name/Letter Recognition Activity - The students in Ms. Hackney's class worked on developing and strengthening their problem-solving and fine motor skills. They matched the letters in their first and last names. They practiced letter recognition and letter matching by matching handmade alphabet clothespins to the letters in their names written on sentence strips.
