
Teacher Cadets - The faculty/staff and students from South Boston Early Learning Center would like to thank Rebecca Saunders, Matilda Martin and the Teacher Cadets from Halifax County High School. These high school students gained valuable experience by working with our students once a week. They were positive and willing to help as needed. We appreciate them.

South Boston ELC - April PTO Craft Day – Students enjoyed creating a spring craft that was sponsored by South Boston Early Learning Center’s PTO. We would like to thank all the volunteers and PTO Board Members for making this activity a huge success. Over 20 volunteers helped the students with this craft activity.







South Boston ELC - Recycling and Earth Day – The students in Ms. Stoner’s and Mrs. Carr’s class at South Boston Early Learning Center discussed Earth Day. They also discussed recycling and were able to recycle various items.




South Boston ELC - Mini-Grant Activity - Students in Ms. Shelton's class, at South Boston Early Learning Center, participated in fairy tale STEM activities. The pictures show the students experimenting on how to build a house for the 3 Little Pigs that cannot be blown down by the wolf. The fairy tale STEM activity kits were made possible through a grant provided by Halifax County Education Association.




South Boston ELC - Professional Development - Occupational therapy staff provided education on sensory integration and the benefits for multisensory learning for some of the faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center. OT staff educated on the eight sensory system functions, identification of individualized sensory needs for students and proactive strategies to support sensory regulation in the classroom. The faculty/staff were provided education on sensory strategies including the use of sensory bins with various textures, play based proprioceptive movement exercises, examples of classroom modifications, pediatric yoga poses, and various breathing techniques that could be implemented in the school environment.


South Boston ELC - Teacher of the Year – Congratulations to Kayla Edmunds. She is being recognized as South Boston Early Learning Center’s 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year.


South Boston ELC - Excellence in Service Award – Congratulations to Roxanna Martin. She is being recognized as South Boston Early Learning Center’s 2023-2024 Excellence in Service Award Nominee.


South Boston ELC - Grandparent Breakfast and Book Fair – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center enjoyed breakfast with their families at the center. They were able to shop at the Book Fair with their families also. We would like to thank Food Services for accommodating over 130 adults.






South Boston ELC - Cybersecurity Professional Development – The faculty/staff at the South Boston Early Learning Center recently engaged in a Cybersecurity Professional Development Session. This training equipped them with the skills to safeguard against identity theft, recognize phishing emails, and secure their IOT devices. The invaluable knowledge gained will not only enhance their safety
within the school environment but also fortify their online security at home. Heidi Ward, Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT), conducted the session.



South Boston E.L.C. - Perfect Attendance – The students at South Boston Early Learning Center were recognized for having perfect attendance during the 3rd nine weeks.

South Boston ELC - Breakfast Surprise – The students and faculty/staff at South Boston Early Learning Center were surprised with a visitor for breakfast. Lift Off, Sodexo’s Mascot, welcomed everyone with a smile!






Kindergarten registration is being conducted at all elementary schools on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 and Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2024, please register the child at the elementary school in your school zone. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate for registration.

VDOE - Executive Order 28 - Student and Family Resources Regarding Opioids, Overdoes and Fentanyl.
As directed in Governor Youngkin's Executive Order 28, local school divisions must provide informational resources to students, parents, and school personnel on opioid use and abuse to ensure the health and safety of all students in Virginia.
